Sumac Berries (Rhus Coriaria)

Sumac Berries

Although there are many species of Sumac, some of which are poisonous, the particular species used in ancient and modern Middle Eastern recipes is Rhus Coriaria. It has many uses besides cooking the berries, such as dying cloth, medicine, and as a dried spice.

In the US a good brand that sells raw Sumac berries is Starwest Botanicals and can be purchased on Amazon.
